synergistic opportunities for their respective tenants

Sophia Antipolis
Science Park, France
The first science park to be set up in France, Sophia
Antipolis is a community of research and educational
institutions, development corporations and production
engineering centres as well as public and private sector
institutions. It houses a community of companies, engineers
and technicians and students. The 30-year old park is
the focus of hi-tech economic activity at the heart
of the French Riviera in the Provence-Alpes-Côte
d'Azur region, which is world- famous for its tourist
attractions. International companies, mainly from the
United States, use Sophia Antipolis as a hub for developing
their operations for the European market..
Heidelberg Technology Park, Germany
The Heidelberg Technology Park, founded in 1985, is
a rapidly growing international science park, offering
facilities and management services to companies specialising
in biotechnology, bioinformatics, medicine techniques
and environmental technologies. Its shareholders are
the City of Heidelberg and Chamber of Industry and Commerce
Rhine-Neckar. Renowned as a centre for life sciences,
the Heidelberg Park is spread over 16,500 sq metres
of space at the University Campus and other locations
in the city of Heidelberg. Another 32,000 square metres
are now under construction, in addition to planning
a new BioMed Park.
Alberta Research Council, Canada
Alberta Research Council (ARC), a wholly owned subsidiary
of the Alberta Science and Research Authority (ASRA),
exists to develop technologies for societal benefits.
Established in 1921, ARC develops and commercializes
technology to give its customers a competitive advantage.

Technopolis,
Finland
Technopolis is the largest company in Finland specializing
in the provision of operating environments for high
tech companies. It offers a comprehensive service package
combining modern operating facilities, a wide range
of services for customer companies and their personnel,
and company development programmes. Technopolis operates
in the Oulu region in Northern Finland and in Vantaa
and in Espoo in the capital area. More than 8,000 people
from 550 companies are currently working in Technopolis
facilities.
Zernika, Australia
Zernike Australia Pty Ltd is based in Perth at the
Technology Park in Bentley. It was established in 1999
to develop the Zernike technology commercialisation
business model in Australia. It specialises in the commercialisation
of technology and management of seed capital funds and
facilities. The Zernike Group has invested in establishing
over 350 technology companies. It manages 14 science
and technology parks and business incubators around
the world and conducts consulting assignments in these
fields for government and private clients.
International Business
Incubator (IBI), United States of America The
International Business Incubator (IBI) is a world-renowned,
non-profit organization dedicated to supporting global
business development. Through its incubation programme,
IBI supports international firms expanding into the
US for the first time, specifically Silicon Valley.
IBI has been key in assisting foreign governments and
organizations create business development centers, both
in the US and internationally, involving inward investment,
business partnering, and acceleration of business. IBI
receives academic, government, and business delegations
on a regular basis for purposes of networking. In 2003,
it was awarded the World Bank grant for creating tools
for incubators in developing countries.
